Monday, May 11, 2015 {Small Town}

1. Got up at 6am, and got ready for the day. Left the house to catch the bus at 7:20, and got to school around 7:45.

2. Geology. Today's topic was glaciers and that sort of stuff. It was actually pretty fun because a lot of it was talking about local stuff. Mt. Baker turns out to be a totally interesting place when it comes to this kind of stuff.

3. After class, C. went to register for fall classes, so I hung out with L. for a while. After C. came back, we talked about random stuff for a while, including local drama, gummy candies, minigolf, what classes we're taking in the fall, and various other things.

4. English. We had to get started on our research papers today, which we'll be working on for the remainder of the quarter.  I am writing about homeschooled students' preparedness for college and the world beyond, which I think should be a fun and pertinent subject. When we shared our topic ideas with the class, everyone seemed to think I was sort of crazy, but that's okay. I don't mind being the crazy one who writes about homeschooling as long as I get a good grade.

5. After that, C. played minigolf on my ipod for a while because the iOS version has more features than the Android one. He left for class, and I worked on homework for a little while, and wrote up yesterday's blog post.

6. I caught the bus to the library, and volunteered there for an hour, cleaning toys, books, and glue sticks (almost the weirdest thing I've done in the four years I've been there).

7. Went to Chocolate Necessities w/ Julie and the boys. Gelato of the week: chocolate, red orange, and pink grapefruit. I did some Geology homework, and ran into my friend Devon from many years back, plus Dad and Beth stopped by as well. Small town...

8. Irish dance. We had an hour of class, and then a little over an hour of rehearsal for an upcoming performance.

9. Came home, ate some dinner, texted a little with some friends, wrote this, read Jane Eyre, went to bed.

I'll post about tomorrow for sure. Today's my last day being 16!

Friday, April 24, 2015 {MINIGOLF}

1.Got up and ready, made food to take with me to school.

2. Left at 7:10, caught the bus, and made it to WCC around 7:40. I was then going to eat some of the food I brought, but then I realized that it was still sitting on the counter.

3. Geology. Topic of the day - metamorphic rocks.

4. C and I hung out for another hour and a half. L joined us for a while and they tried to make me feel better about having no food by giving me their food, which I refused. By this point, I was really hungry and slightly light headed, having not eaten anything at all yet, and at 10:30ish I realized I had $6 (most of it in quarters), which was enough to buy a chicken teriyaki bowl at the school cafeteria. It served as my breakfast/lunch. During this time, C and I spent most of the hour playing on this minigolf app that he has gotten me addicted to, and talking about random stuff.

5. English. We spent the whole time discussing the Cynthia Selfe essay, and it evolved at some point into a discussion of Gamergate (google it if you don't know what I'm talking about). Very interesting overall.

6. Barely caught the bus downtown in time. Also had some adventures with my phone being dead, and needing to call my mom. C's phone was barely not dead, so I was able to use that. It was very exciting.

7. Walked 8ish blocks from the bus station to my appointment downtown.

8. After my appointment, I walked to the Co-op (the downtown branch), and had just enough money to buy hot chocolate. I paid for it entirely in quarters. I managed to get done almost all of my English homework while I was there.

9. Mom picked me up and we went home and had dinner.

10. Then we had self defense class. We talked about bullying, and worked on things to do when you are trapped on the ground while being attacked.

11. Got home, messed around on the internet for a little while, wrote this log, read Jane Eyre, went to bed.

Wednesday, April 22, 2015 {Earth Day}

*Quick note: I am going to be using initials to refer to various people in here if I'm not sure whether or not they want their names on my blog. If you don't know all of us, this might be a tad confusing, but it should at least help me in writing these, and will hopefully make the sentences clearer to read. If I'm referring to you as a letter in here, and you don't mind your name being out, let me know. My plan is to use initials to refer to kids, and use names for adults for the most part. Anyway, feedback appreciated on that one.

1. Woke up, got ready, and ate a hurried breakfast on the way to the bus. Caught the bus to school.

2. Went to Geology. The topic of the day was sedimentary rocks. I must say that I like the igneous rocks better so far. Much more neat and orderly in their identification.

3. Hung out with C (who is a friend of mine who is also in my Geology class) for an hour and a half. Watched him play mini-golf on his phone, played some mini-golf myself (I probably shouldn't have downloaded that app, but I did), and helped him with his Interpersonal Communications homework. And by help, I mean that he read the questions he had to answer out loud, and I looked slightly confused, and mumbled some things, and was generally useless.

4. Went to English. We were discussing an essay called "Lest We Think The Revolution is a Revolution" by Cynthia Selfe about the tech revolution (it was written in 1999) as it relates to teaching and schools.

5. Met my dad and Isabelle for lunch at the Co-op.

6. Park day! It was a nice day, and I mostly hung out with E, H, and C. We talked about being a feminist (I usually call myself one, but C was arguing that I shouldn't because of the negative . connotations that word has nowadays. He was saying that I should call myself an "equal rights activist" instead), and various other randomish things.

7. Came home, ate dinner, and wrote a 700 page informal paper, still on the topic of religion in the homeschool group. This is turning out to be a really interesting topic, but I'm a little worried about how well it's going to translate into a longer essay. I like most of what I've written so far, but what is looking like it's going to be my thesis is depressingly broad. Must fix that somehow...

8. Watched Doctor Who, wrote this, read Jane Eyre, went to bed.
