Eureka: Part Two

Continuing from yesterday, here are the final three seasons of Eureka.

Season Three
This is it. The episode.

Season Three brings some of the saddest moments of the show. If you've seen it, I'm sure you know to what I am referring to. Ironically, I really liked the episode, up until about the lat four minutes. Also, Jack's sister is in town, and pregnant with twin boys (she later disappears, never to be mentioned again). Kim comes back (sorta), which made me very happy. I always like it when tv shows make references to things from the past like that. In the end, Jenna is born, Zane proposes, Zoe leaves for college, and Tess moves to Australia. All is well for the moment.

Season Four
What year is it?

Now, I'm going to start doing them the way they aired. Season Four begins by changing EVERYTHING. Some changes were not terrible (Like Andy.) Some were, like Jo and Zane, or Henry and Grace. I guess that's not terrible exactly, but weird. Also, Kevin's not autistic. That made me mad. That was, in some ways, the plot of the show for the first few seasons. Now it's just... gone? And Fargo is the head of GD? This season we have characters like Grant, Grace, and Andy joining the crew. Also, Stark makes an appearance, which got everyone's hopes up and then shattered them. Very mean.

Season 4.5
Folding paper cranes. Parish is a jerk.

This is the Astraeus season. Beverly is back, and up to no good as usual. Jack and Allison happen, finally (it only took five years), Zane decides to go to Titan, and Jo stays behind. Allison gets into a very tricky situation in the final seconds of the season. We have new characters this season like Dr. Parrish (Wil Wheaton) and Holly Martin (Felicia Day)

Season 5
Allison and a way too old Jenna. I think this is at the beginning, before they are found.

This season begins with the clean up of the disaster that was the Astraeus project. Beverley's involved, of course, and a lot of confusion follows. Eventually, they get the situation mostly sorted out, but there is still the Holly problem, as well as the relationship issues Allison and Zane are now plagued with. The final episode was much better than I had hoped it would be, and there were even some cheesy montages of the past. Cute. But the very best moment, for me, was the very last one.

This was the perfect ending. When I first saw it, I went to rewatch the first episode to check for accuracy. It was perfect!

I hope you liked this! These are fun for me, and I think for you too, if you've watched the show. If you haven't, you probably thought it was boring. Sorry. I'm going to do a few more of these this month, so stay tuned.

Eureka: Part One

I thought that today it would be fun to do a post on a favorite TV show of mine. This will be similar to the review of Buffy The Vampire Slayer I did a few months ago. For each season, I'm going to have some pictures, a summary, and some reactions of my own. There will be spoilers, so if you are thinking about watching this show, you should probably not read past the first few seasons. After that, there are WAY more potential spoilers. Even so, it's written in such a way to help you remember it if you've seen it, and if you haven't, it'll probably just be confusing. Come back tomorrow for the second part.

Before we begin, here is Eureka on IMDb.

Also, people you might recognize:
Chris Gauthier:
Vincent, the cook at Cafe Diem. He's William Smee (the guy with the red hat) in Once Upon A Time.

Dr. Parrish, a total jerk. Best known from Star Trek: The Next Generation

Debrah Farentino:

Beverly Barlow, a dangerous woman. Her list is long. I know her from Earth 2.

Joe Morton:

Henry Deacon, mechanic. He's from... everything. His IMDb page never ends.

Season One
The whole crew. S.A.R.A.H. isn't happy.
This season has mixed reviews from me. For one thing, they obviously don't have all their sets for a few episodes, meaning that Global Dynamics looks pretty cheesy at first. There is Nathan, though, which is obviously a good thing. Also, this season has some pretty awesome episodes, including "Right As Raynes," which may be my very favorite episode of the show for reasons that are too spoilery to share. We are introduced to characters like Beverly, Henry, Jo, Fargo, and S.A.R.A.H.

Season Two
Jack and Nathan.

Season Two starts with a bang (sorry, couldn't resist), and continues that way. I love season two. We have characters like Nathan, and Tagart, and even Zane is introduced for the first time. We are still following the main storyline with Kevin, and Beverly is still our main villain. Allison is the head of GD, and all is perfect in the world of Eureka (except all the things that go really, really wrong, but who cares about that. I'm happy. :) )

And because this is a totally awesome episode:
Jo and Nathan. Awesome.

Come back tomorrow for Season 3-5!

My Favorite Things: TV Shows

I talk a lot about books on here, but reading isn't the only thing I do. I thought that today, I'd share a list of my favorite TV shows, both ones that are currently airing, and ones from the past. It will be divided into a few sections. No spoilers, I promise.

Shows I'm Currently Watching

1. Once Upon A Time. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the first season, and am happy with it so far. I'll admit I was pretty excited to see Emilie de Raven as Belle, who is in two other shows on this list. :)

Here is Belle:

2. Lost. Sorry, I'm not going to find a picture for this one, because I am way too scared of spoilers. I am half way through Season 4, and do NOT want any of it spoiled. Emilie de Raven played Claire here.

Well, here is one of Claire and Aaron.

3. Downton Abbey. I love Downton Abbey, but I'm finding Season 4 a little painful (don't worry, no spoilers here) so far. I just watched the fourth episode, and my heart goes out to poor Anna. :'(
Here is an image from Season 1 or 2. I loved their clothes in the early years!

Shows I've Seen in the Past

4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I'm a huge Buffy fan.

5. Angel. This goes along with the previous show.

6. Sherlock. I didn't put this under currently watching since I'm technically not watching it, I'm just waiting for the next season to come out!

Some Other Good Shows
These shows are ones I really liked, but would not say I absolutely loved.

7. Eureka. This show is a lot of fun. I didn't love the first season, but they get better. The last season is a bit of a roller coaster, though.
There were better pictures from later seasons, but Nathan Stark is in this one! :)

8. Roswell. This has an honorary spot on this list, as it is really the first show that I watched all the way through. It's also the first time I saw Emilie de Raven, who here plays Tess, the character you love to hate.

I know Tess was in the one above, but here's one with just her:

And one just for fun. If you haven't watched the show, then sorry, you probably won't get this:
I want this! lol

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Pt. 2

Today, I'm going to start up where I left off yesterday.

Season Four
Season four was definitely not a favorite of mine. It had it's good parts (such as Spike coming back, and the introduction of Tara, and Anya becoming a main character), but I didn't like Riley, and much of the situation at the University was a bit weird. I disliked the Initiative, and Adam was just plain weird. I did like the cross overs with Angel. After this season, they seem to completely forget about each other. Oz leaving was sad. He was a favorite of mine.

One of my favorite Buffy episodes ever!

Season Five
Season five was weird. We have the introduction of Dawn and the death of Joyce right off the bat. Luckily, the Magic Box finally gives them a home base again, which they were really missing after the school blew up, and the graduated. I was quite glad when Riley left at the beginning of the season, leaving the Scooby gang in a far more stable state. At this point, the gang is Giles, Buffy, Willow, Zander, Anya, Tara, and sort of Spike
Probably my favorite couple on this show.

The best part about Season five in my mind was how well they set up Season six. There were lots of story lines all set up at the end of the season. For example, Warren is introduced, Zander proposes to Anya, and Tara and Willow begin to argue about magic. Buffy's death was done quite nicely.

Season Six

Season six I really liked. There were no major upheavals in the Scooby Gang (well, until the end), and there were more demons then Season five, but still plenty of main story lines. You can see dark Willow starting to come out in the beginning, but of course it doesn't get truly bad until the end. What with Willow's addiction, Spike and Buffy's relationship, Dawn's kleptomaniac tendencies, and Xander and Anya's issues, this is the season in which all the characters felt incredibally human to me. Even though half of them aren't. :) Really, though, they all are flawed, and they all have issues to get past. Part way through season six comes my very favorite Buffy episode ever:

The Season Six ending was pretty incredible. After Xander manages to keep Willow from destroying the world, Spike goes through hell to get his soul.

Season Seven
From the series finale.

Season Seven is something in and of itself. The Magic Box is no more, after the Season Six finale, so the Summers house is now the home base for the Scoobies. Who exactly that is is a bit of a confusing question. We've got the usuals (Buffy, Willow, Xander, and sometimes Giles), plus Spike. Then there is everyone else. Anya drifts in and out, Faith shows up near the end, Wood is there in some capacity, Dawn is Dawn, Andrew is... something, and then there are all the potentials (particularly Kennedy).
Andrew.

Season Seven is the end, and you can feel it all the way through. Some of the best parts of the season included Nathan Fillion as the villain, and the scene where Spike dies.

So, there you go. My Buffy the Vampire experience. This was really fun. Maybe I'll do it with some other shows...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Pt 1

Last night, I watched the final episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. After nine months of watching 7 seasons of Buffy (and 4 seasons of Angel), it's finally over. I think it's time to over analyze it. :) While I generally am pretty careful to keep my reviews spoiler free, this one will have tons of spoilers, so beware. I'm going to go over it season by season, so if you've only watched through Season 3, don't read the section for Season 4 (unless you really don't care). This post will cover the first 3 seasons. Four through seven are coming tomorrow.

I'm sure this will go totally overboard and ridiculous, but it'll be a ton of fun. Let's get started with...

Season One

I wasn't a huge fan of the first season. It was pretty cheesy, and it lacked the story lines that are so great in the later seasons. Yeah, there was the Master, but he wasn't all that bad of a Big Bad compared to later seasons.

Some good things about Season One were Cordelia (even though she is incredibally shallow, she was pretty awesome), mysterious Angel (remember, we don't even know who or what he is until half way through the season), and the Good Ol' Scooby Gang. Only in Seasons 1 and 2 do we really have the traditional gang (Giles, Buffy, Zander, Willow, Cordy, and sometimes Angel) meeting in the library.

Season Two

Season two was much better than Season 1 in my opinion.  We have Kendra, and we first meet Spike and Drusilla. Oz shows up for the first time, and Giles (sort of) dates Jenny Calender. The story lines got much better, and the show began the switch away from it's monster of the week format. Angel's death at the end was very dramatic.

Season Three

Poor, poor Amy.
This season is probably my favorite. We still have the classic Scooby Gang (Giles, Buffy, Cordy, Buffy, Willow, Zander, and Angel) plus we have some other great characters joining in such as Oz. Plus, Faith, Wesley, and Anya all find their beginnings in this Season. The Mayor may be my favorite Big Bad of the show, particularly after he pulls in Faith. Angel's leaving is sad. Here are some extra pictures to commemorate a great season:
One of the best Cordy-Buffy moments.

This was Jonathon's 1st episdode!

O Brother Where Art Thou

A few weeks ago, I watched the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou," and I loved it. Unfortunately, I do not have whole lot of time today, so this is not going to be a super long review. I am just going to go over the main things here. As usual, I am not going to go over the movie in detail here, so if you want to know more, click on the title to go to the Amazon page.

First of all, being a movie, and not a book, I do not feel like I can really judge it so carefully. I can't really disect the plot, or the acting, but I can certainly say that I loved it. It was hilarious, and so well done. Next, let's go on to the music, which I really enjoyed. It was light, and just beautiful.

The other thing I wanted to talk about is the Odyssey tie ins. I didn't really watch the movie expecting much in that department, though I knew, as you probably do, that it has its basis in the Odyssey. What it had was all the basic parts of the Odyssey that the majority of the population know: the Cyclopes, the Sirens, Circe (sort of), and of course the great journey back to Penelope. There is even a character who could interpreted to be Homer himself.

While that was neat, and more then I expected, I must admit that I had hope for a bit more, considering I just read the original poem last month.  There is so much more to the story then most people seem to realize, and I had sort of hoped that maybe there would be some references to the structure of the story in the actual book, or the journey of Telemachus, which takes up a good portion of the book. There was one reference to the George Clooney character (who is sort of Odysseus) as a "cool tactician" which people who have read the Odyssey and/or the Iliad will definitely appreciate.

To sum it up, I loved the movie, and I highly recommend it.

Firefly

This review is written assuming that you already know the basic premise of the show and are now deciding whether or not to give it a try. If you don't know that much, here is it's Wikipedia page.

Last fall, I finally started watching the cult classic, Firefly. I had heard of it a long time before, and had been curious about it. It was not until a friend of mine started watching it, and kept telling me that I should watch it that I took the plunge. Here is my reaction.

Firefly had some great elements. I was not a huge fan of the main premise, the whole space cow boy thing, but most of the story lines were pretty good. I especially liked the way the main plot arcs were set up. The witty dialogue, which is one of Joss Whedon (the creator)'s strong points, is especially good.

The weaker points, like some of the characters, and some of the smaller story arcs, are things that I would strongly hold against the show. I think that when watching this show it is important to remember it's story. Even though it only has one season (only 14 or 15 episodes I think), more were planned. Many of the unexplained elements would have likely become much clearer if they had not been canceled so soon.

I enjoyed this show, though it is not one of my very favorites. If you like futuristic sci-fi stories, you might want to try this one out. Even if you are only lukewarm about it, it's not like there is much of a commitment, considering there is only one short season.

This show has pretty broad appeal age wise. My 11 year old sister enjoyed most of it. You should know that there are several episodes that feature Reavers, people that gone crazy, and self mutilate and have resorted to cannibalism. There is also one episode with several torture scenes.

One of the main characters is a "Companion," which is basically a glorified prostitute. Her work features in several episodes, and other crew members make crude jokes about it regularly.

Overall, I would recommend this show to most people. I know that is not for everyone, but I think it is worth a shot.
